Contribution to a sustainable medicines manufacturing sector can be achieved by encouraging collaboration in developing new:

  • innovation
  • technologies
  • tools
  • data sets
  • approaches

As part of the governance framework for the SMMI programme we are seeking a chair for an advisory group.

About the role

You will:

  • chair all SMMI advisory group quarterly meetings, providing advice and challenge to the Innovate UK team delivering the programme
  • ensure that the funder’s decisions affecting the portfolio of SMMI programme activities are critically examined and that all members’ views are considered and presented when challenging or seeking clarification on these decisions
  • provide expert advice on UK Research and Innovation’s (UKRI) broader future medicines manufacturing forward look strategy
  • advise on future medicines manufacturing funding decisions to ensure alignment with strategic priorities

  • have oversight of key aspects of progress with programme delivery

Commitment

The SMMI advisory group will meet no more than quarterly.

Your role as chair will be essential for facilitating these meetings so you are required to attend all meetings.

You will also be involved in strategic decision making that supports future UKRI investment in sustainable medicines manufacturing programmes.

It is essential that you commit the necessary time and attention to the role and have the full support of your employer and organisation in doing so.

The public and parliament expect high standards of integrity.

The role requires you to avoid situations in which your duties and other interests’ conflict with the group’s business or where there could be a suspicion of conflict.

You must not misuse information gained in the course of your work for UKRI for personal gain or for political purpose.

You must not use the opportunity of public service to promote your private interests, or those of connected organisations, persons or firms.

You cannot be a member of a review panel for a major funder (for example, Wellcome Trust, Cancer Research UK) simultaneously.

Remuneration

You will receive an annual stipend.

For in-person meetings reasonable travel and subsistence expenses will be paid in accordance with the UKRI travel, subsistence and expenses policy.
