Dr Ceri Williams

Dr Ceri Williams is the Director of Challenge-Led Themes for the Medical Research Council (MRC).

Ceri is responsible for developing and driving MRC’s strategic programmes, ensuring that the challenge-led portfolio contributes to the success of MRC, UKRI, UK academia and the wider UK Life Science sector.

This includes leadership of:

  • data science
  • skills and talent
  • infrastructure
  • the major investments portfolio of MRC Institutes and Centres of Research Excellence (MRC CoREs), alongside targeted investments aligned to MRC strategy

Ceri has significant experience in research funding and strategic programme development and has led several large-scale, multi-million-pound research initiatives and collaborative partnerships. Prior to joining MRC Ceri spent over a decade leading strategy development and funding activities in Bioscience for Health, and Transformative Technologies, at the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).
