The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) 2024 community webinar took place on 12 December 2024, hosted by BBSRC Executive Chair, Professor Anne Ferguson-Smith.
The webinar provided attendees with the opportunity to hear updates and news from BBSRC over the last year. It highlighted progress on BBSRC’s strategic delivery plan (2022 to 2025) and looked at our future ambitions for UK bioscience.
The main target audience was the bioscience research and innovation community from:
- universities
- research institutes
- industry
- policy
The webinar also featured presentations about two key themes of interest to BBSRC’s stakeholders, namely:
- the importance of research technical professionals to bioscience by Tim Shuttleworth (BBSRC’s Head of Research Infrastructure) and Robert Hardwick (BBSRC’s Associate Director for People, Talent and Culture)
- BBSRC responsive mode evaluation and reform work presented by Dr Jef Grainger, BBSRC’s Associate Director for Research Strategy and Programmes
During these sessions, attendees were given the opportunity to provide their thoughts and views using interactive polling.
Attendees were invited to submit questions and comments both in advance of the webinar and during the event itself.
This gave attendees the opportunity to raise any questions relevant to BBSRC’s strategic direction and future activity as well as any immediate challenges or opportunities for bioscience.
The webinar ended with a live question and answer session with members of BBSRC’s Executive Leadership Team.
