BBSRC’s role in food, nutrition and health research

As part of strategic planning in the ‘Basic Bioscience Underpinning Health’ priority area, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) sought views on our role in food, nutrition and health research.

We have identified food, nutrition and health as an area in which we can make a significant investment, but which could benefit from a clearer strategic direction.

Working group

We established a working group, with representation from academia and industry, to guide the development of a succinct five-year strategic framework document that will outline our key priorities and actions in this field.

The working group was convened under the purview of, and has representation from, our Basic Bioscience Underpinning Health and Agriculture and Food Security Strategy Advisory Panels.

To further inform the development of a strategic framework, we were keen to gather views and input from the wider research and stakeholder community, at an early stage in the group’s deliberations.
