Fellowship focus

The fellowship research supports two policy actions within the Women’s Health Plan.

The research uses mixed methods to explore women’s health inequalities, with the aim of informing future iterations of the plan and gathering much needed data on women and health in Scotland.

The first part of the fellowship is a two-phase qualitative project which uses an intersectional theoretical lens. It uses focus groups with women from a range of backgrounds and in-depth interviews with 28 young women to explore women’s experiences of discrimination and the impact on their health.

For the quantitative part of the fellowship, routinely collected data from National Records of Scotland are to be analysed to examine intersectional patterning of health outcomes among women in Scotland.
