We believe that a dynamic, diverse and inclusive system of research and innovation – one that gives everyone the opportunity to participate and to benefit – is an integral part of society.
People are at the heart of this system.
The government’s UK Research and Development Roadmap sets out an ambition to make the UK world-leading in the way that we attract, develop and support talented people.
To deliver on that ambition we are committed to investing in, supporting and developing everyone who contributes to the research and innovation endeavour – to help you reach your potential.
Prioritising our investments
Across UKRI we recognise it is not just about how much we invest, but also how and where we prioritise investments.
We have a strong focus on the employability and career development of doctoral students and post-docs. You can find opportunities for placements, internships and experiential learning in business and other non-academic environments.
We also recognise that people and research culture are inextricably linked.
We want to create a healthy working environment where people can thrive. This means widening access and participation in research, by making interventions that support diversity.
To do this we need to develop leadership that enables researchers and innovators to succeed in large and complex research programmes, at places that champion:
- positive research cultures
- equality, diversity and inclusion values
- the progression and development of team members.
Our Future Leaders Fellowships programme spearheads this effort with a supportive ethos and a national cohort development network – providing leadership development opportunities for hundreds of fellows across multiple areas of interest.
