Details

The UK Astronomy Technology Centre (UK ATC) is one of the UK’s leading specialist facilities for astronomy research and instrument construction.

UK ATC:

  • plays host to world-leading scientific research
  • provides a link to The University of Edinburgh through the co-location of their Institute for Astronomy within the site
  • hosts and incubates a number of startup businesses

UK ATC is a key location for this research but also needs to:

  • maintain a complex and historic estate
  • overcome a potential lack of access for future larger astronomical instruments
  • adapt to a net zero future while securing and enhancing biodiversity on the site

The development plan aims to chart a course so that the estate can support the scientific pipeline and future strategy of the site
