Details

Quantum technologies will impact every aspect of the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC) mission in the years to come.

We are already playing a leading role in the UK’s National Quantum Technologies Programme by working with partners to deliver the National Quantum Computing Centre and the Quantum Technology for Fundamental Physics programme.

Our strategy sets out our ambition for the UK’s National Laboratories and our fundamental physics programme to support a diverse range of research, development and adoption of quantum technologies, across a range of technology readiness levels.

This document sets out the strategic context for quantum technologies within STFC and the UK National Quantum Strategy and National Quantum Technologies Programme.

Four strategic themes have been identified to provide a framework for STFC’s vision, cross-cut by STFC’s engagement with the UK Quantum Missions:

  • building the ecosystem
  • science and discovery
  • accelerating applications
  • materials, devices and engineering
