This is the second of 3 short ‘insight briefs’ from the Prospering from the Energy Revolution challenge programme.

Since 2018 the challenge programme has funded more than 80 projects and trials developing aspects of smart local energy systems. The insight briefs outline the opportunities and barriers that the projects have discovered in their work.

This report focuses on the projects’ learnings in terms of policy and regulation, and how their experience might inform the further development of place-based energy systems in future.

The other insight briefs look at finance and investment, and skills and capabilities.
