Details

The Radiation in MRC supported research in the 1950s and 1960s: Report of a Committee of Inquiry details the outcomes of a review which began in response to claims made in an independently produced TV documentary screened on Channel 4 in 1995. The documentary included some Medical Research Council (MRC) studies as well as research conducted in the US.

The programme featured studies carried out in the 1950s and 1960s and raised concerns about this research, which were voiced by the public, raised by MPs and were covered by the media.

MRC established an inquiry which included independent members to establish the facts concerning these issues and to report to the council and for the report to be made public.

Following publication of the report in 1998 it was deposited in the British Library.
