Details

The technical guidance is for higher education provider (HEP) planning and finance specialists. It explains in detail how the figures in the 2023 to 2024 grant data tables have been derived.

Two workbooks provide the HEP income data used in the calculations for HEIF, QR charity support funding and QR business research element.

The mapping of Research Excellence Framework REF 21 units of assessment (UOAs) to Research England cost centres and Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) cost centres has not changed since original publication in 2022.

The working examples provide spreadsheet formulae for calculations used in mainstream QR and QR research degree programme (RDP) supervision funding. You can amend the data to see how changes affect the example allocations.

The grant letter template was used as the basis for the grant letters sent to Research England funded HEPs in August 2023.
