Details

Industrial Biotechnology (IB) is a set of cross-disciplinary approaches that use biological resources for the production and processing of materials, chemicals and energy carriers with the principal aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by replacing fossil chemical feedstocks or fossil chemical powered processes.

Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council’s (BBSRC) current annual expenditure on the IB portfolio is approximately £29 million across a variety of investment mechanisms.

This document summarises the views and conclusions of a specialist evaluation panel, who conducted an independent evaluation of the effectiveness and impact of BBSRC’s investments in IB research.
