Details

This framework highlights four key themes that the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) will use to support and enable a deeper, more integrated understanding of the determinants of health. The four key themes are:

  • ageing and health across the life course
  • food and nutrition for health
  • combatting infectious disease and antimicrobial resistance
  • transformative technologies for health

The framework is underpinned by two core principles that will be embedded within all research and innovation initiatives supported by BBSRC. They are:

  • One Health: a unifying approach that aims to sustainably balance and optimise the health of people, animals and the environment
  • the 3Rs: a guiding framework for the replacement, reduction and refinement of animals used in research
