AHRC Council member
Tim Gardam is a member of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Council.
Tim has been Chief Executive of the Nuffield Foundation, an independent funder of academic research, where he established the Ada Lovelace Institute.
He was previously Principal of St Anne’s College, University of Oxford, where he was a member of the University Council and established the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism.
He has served on the board of the communications regulator, Ofcom, where he chaired the Content Board. In this earlier career, he was:
- Editor of Panorama and Newsnight
- Head of Current Affairs at the BBC
- Director of Programmes at Channel 4
- member of the DCMS Burns Review of BBC governance
He is currently:
- a member of Council at the University of Birmingham
- an independent non-executive director of Wessex Water
- a trustee of the Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company
He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. He was awarded a CBE in 2024 for services to journalism and education.
