ESRC Head of International Strategy
Lewis Preece is Head of International Strategy at the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
Lewis is responsible for developing ESRC’S international partnerships and managing our engagement with international programmes. Lewis has overall responsibility for building and maintaining bilateral and multilateral partnerships with international funding bodies and working to ensure that the best researchers in the UK can work with the most appropriate counterparts wherever they might be in the world.
Previously, Lewis served as Deputy Head of International Strategy at the ESRC where his role was focused on the development of ESRC’s programme of Newton fund activity with South Africa and India, including establishing programmes on the topics such as urban transformations, higher education reform and social science data infrastructure. He also served as the co-ordinator of the €1.5 million EC funded EU-India Platform for the Social Sciences and Humanities (EqUIP).
Lewis is an organic chemist by background and received his PhD from the University of Sussex in 2012 for work towards the development of new antimicrobial compounds. Lewis has worked for the UK research councils for over seven years across both the ESRC and Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and across a variety of interdisciplinary sectors including renewable energy and healthcare technologies.
