Dr Kathryn Magnay

EPSRC Deputy Director, Clean Energy

Dr Kathryn Magnay is the Deputy Director for Clean Energy in the Strategy Directorate at the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

Kathryn has shared oversight of our work towards net zero, contributing to the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) ‘building a greener future’ strategic theme.

As an EPSRC senior leader, she has relationship management responsibilities with key strategic partnerships.

In recent years Kathryn has worked extensively across UKRI developing UKRI’s strategy for artificial intelligence (AI) research and innovation and delivering pan-UKRI AI investments.

Kathryn has previously been Head of Energy Technologies at EPSRC developing research and innovation programmes across the energy sector and responding to opportunities presented by the Industry Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF).

As one of the initial ISCF programmes Kathryn developed and established the Faraday Battery Challenge, continuing to deliver the programme as the Deputy Challenge Director, investing in research, innovation and facilities to grow a UK battery industry.
