Ian Meikle

Director of Net Zero Heat and Power

Ian is Director of Net Zero Heat and Power working with government, investors and innovators to shape the UK’s net zero transition, driving innovation, productivity, investment, jobs, growth and exports.

Since 2009, Ian’s other Innovate UK roles have included Head of Agriculture and Food, which included setting up the Agritech centres. Ian has also led the Low Impact Building programme to reduce emissions and impacts from new and existing buildings.

In 2003 to 2004 he retrained and gained an MSc (distinction) in Renewable Energy and the Environment from the University of Reading, to follow his passion and support the emerging need for a more sustainable future. Following this he spent several years in principal consulting roles providing solutions in renewable energy, low carbon construction and a sustainable built environment, before joining Innovate UK in 2009.

His early career saw him delivering enterprise IT solutions across a range of sectors including manufacturing, insurance and financial services in New York and London.
