ESRC Strategic Lead for Justice and Security
Christina Rowley is Head of Justice and Security research at the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
The Justice and Security team’s key aim is to support the UK research base to address major societal challenges around achieving a society which is just, equitable, safe and governed fairly.
The team develops, commissions and manages research and knowledge exchange investments and activities in areas including:
- equalities and communities
- politics and governance
- crime and justice
- security and defence
- conflict and other transnational issues
After completing her PhD in Politics at Bristol, Christina joined ESRC in 2013 as a senior manager responsible for leading ESRC’s knowledge exchange and engagement with charitable organisations.
She has since held a variety of roles in ESRC, including:
- Head of International Strategy
- Head of Strategy
- Head of International Development research
- Head of Global Resilience research
Christina’s research background is at the intersection of international relations and cultural studies, and she has published on (among other topics):
- the politics of science fiction
- identity and US foreign policy
- war, gender and popular culture
- the multifaceted relationships between popular culture and world politics
