Research England Council member
Dr Carol Bell is a member of Research England’s Council.
Carol is a former Managing Director of the Global Oil & Gas Group at the Chase Manhattan Bank (1997 to 1999).
She has an MA in Natural Sciences (Biochemistry) from the University of Cambridge, a BA in Earth Sciences (Geology) from the Open University and an MA and a PhD from the Institute of Archaeology, UCL.
Dr Bell started her career in the oil and gas industry as Commercial Analyst with RTZ Oil and Gas and joined Charterhouse Petroleum as a Commercial Executive in 1983. She subsequently moved into Equity Research and Investment Banking and held senior positions at UBS Phillips & Drew and Credit Suisse First Boston before becoming Head of European Equity Research at JP Morgan and a Managing Director of its Investment Bank before completing her executive career at Chase Manhattan Bank.
Since 2000, Dr Bell has held a number of non-executive roles and she is currently a Non-Executive Director of Tharisa plc, Bonheur ASA and the BlackRock Energy and Resources Investment Trust. She is a founder director of Chapter Zero, a network to support Non-executive Directors with climate change engagement, and the first woman to serve on the board of the Football Association of Wales.
Dr Bell is a board member at The Development Bank of Wales and chairs its Investment Committee. She is also currently Vice President of National Museum Wales, Senior Independent Director of The National Physical Laboratory and a Trustee of Museum of London Archaeology.
Carol Bell is originally from Wales and is a fluent Welsh speaker.
