Professor Andy Schofield

STFC Council member

Professor Andy Schofield is a member of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Council.

Andy is Vice-Chancellor of Lancaster University, a role he started in May 2020.

Previously he was Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (2015 to 2020) at the University of Birmingham where he worked for more than 20 years. He is a theoretical physicist whose research focuses on the physics of correlated electrons in condensed matter. He works at the interface between theory and experiment on understanding the properties of a wide range of materials from the cuprate- and iron-based superconductors to the novel excitations of electrons confined to one-dimensions in quantum wires.

He has served on the board of the Manufacturing Technology Centre, where he is now an Honorary Fellow. He is a board member of the N8 Research Partnership.
