ESRC Council member
Andrew Dilnot is a member of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Council.
Andrew is the Non-Executive Chair of Oxford University Press.
Andrew was the Warden of Nuffield College from 2012 to 2024. He was the Chair of the UK Statistics Authority from 2012 to 2017, and the Chair of the Commission on the Funding of Care and Support, which reported in 2011.
From 1991 to 2002, Andrew was the Director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, having worked there from 1981. He was Principal of St Hugh’s College, Oxford, from 2002 to 2012, and a Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University from 2005 to 2012.
Andrew was Chair of the Geospatial Commission from 2019 to 2021, and in 2022 to 2023 was co-Chair of a review of impartiality of the BBC’s output related to taxation, public spending and public borrowing.
He is also an Honorary Fellow of the British Academy and was the founding presenter of BBC Radio 4’s series on the beauty of numbers, ‘More or Less’, and presented the programme from 2001 to 2007.
