Professor Alison Etheridge

EPSRC Council member

Professor Alison Etheridge is a member of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Council.

After graduate study split between the universities of Oxford and McGill, Professor Etheridge worked at the universities of Cambridge, Berkeley, Edinburgh and Queen Mary University, London before returning to Oxford. At Oxford, she is Professor of Probability with a joint appointment in the Mathematical Institute and the Department of Statistics.

Alison is a Fellow of the Royal Society, an international member of the US National Academy of Science, and an International Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Prizes include the Senior Anne Bennett Prize and the David Crighton Medal.

She has an honorary degree from The University of Edinburgh and she was awarded an OBE for services to science.

Alison has extensive experience of academic leadership, both nationally and internationally.

She has served as Chair of the Council for the Mathematical Sciences, President of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, a Council member of the Royal Society and numerous other committee memberships. This includes working with EPSRC both through the Mathematical Sciences Strategic Advisory Team and through the Strategic Advisory Network.

From June 2024 she is first President of the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences.
