Apply for funding to respond quickly to transient, unexpected environmental research opportunities created by sporadic natural occurrences such as earthquakes, droughts, floods, or ephemeral events in ecosystems.

You must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for NERC funding.

Strategic infrastructure outlines

Apply for funding to purchase strategic infrastructure including equipment, resources or both.

You must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) funding.

Work with US-based researchers on environmental science: NERC-NSF lead agency

Apply for funding to work with US-based researchers on an environmental science application.

Collaborative work is governed by a lead agency agreement between NERC and NSF.

The UK-based applicant must be:

  • based at a UK research organisation eligible for NERC funding
  • employed at lecturer (or equivalent) level or above

Eligible UK public sector organisations can apply for a share of up to £25,000 from the Knowledge Asset Grant Fund in this strand.

Eligible UK public sector organisations can apply for up to £100,000 from the Knowledge Asset Grant Fund in this strand.

Knowledge Asset Grant Fund: extend, 2024 to 2025

Eligible UK public sector organisations can apply for up to £250,000 from the Knowledge Asset Grant Fund in this strand.

Collaborate with the functional genomics screening laboratory

Apply to collaborate with the functional genomics screening laboratory on projects using complex human in vitro models for CRISPR screening to better understand model biology.

You must be a researcher eligible for MRC funding.

Applications from UK based industry parties may also be considered.

Open access fund for longform publications: stage two

Research organisations can claim open access costs for longform publications in-scope of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)’s open access policy that have been approved at stage one.

Applications must be completed by the team that is responsible for open access within the research organisation. Organisations must be based in the UK to apply.
