Improve and accelerate the impact of your organisation’s research

Apply for impact acceleration account (IAA) funding to help your organisation’s research have an impact.

Your organisation must be eligible for funding from one of these councils:

  • AHRC
  • BBSRC
  • EPSRC
  • STFC
  • MRC.

To be eligible to apply for EPSRC funding, your organisation must have been invited.

Early technology development and equipment for STFC grant holders

Apply for funding for equipment to support the development of basic technologies in areas such as sensors, imaging and detectors.

You must currently hold an STFC core programme grant in one of these areas:

  • nuclear physics
  • particle physics and particle astrophysics
  • astronomy and space science
  • accelerators, and computing in support of these.

Public engagement with STFC science, technology or facilities

Apply for funding to engage the public with STFC-supported science, technology or facilities.

This opportunity is open to a wide range of organisations.

You can apply if you’re a UK organisation with an annual financial report and accounts.

Your project must focus on an area within the remit of STFC.

Developing STFC nuclear physics priorities

Apply for funding for a small nuclear physics project focused on feasibility.

To apply you must be an academic member of staff or hold a fellowship, won through open competition. You can be at any career stage.

Developing quantum technologies for fundamental physics

Apply for funding to apply, or adapt, quantum technologies to fundamental physics questions.

You and your institution should be eligible for UKRI funding.

Set up a centre for doctoral training in data intensive science

Apply for funding to establish a new centre for doctoral training (CDT) in data intensive science.

You can apply if:

  • your higher education institution receives STFC core science funding
  • the training of all involved lead departments is STFC accredited.

Build a network to promote academic engagement with Catapults

Apply for funding to build a network that will:

  • encourage engagement between academia and the Catapult centres
  • deliver the Researchers in Residence awards.

You must:

  • be a UK resident
  • be based at an eligible research organisation
  • have experience of running large centres or networks.

Lead public engagement with science, technology and engineering

Apply for a fellowship to engage the public with STFC-supported science, technology or engineering.

You must be:

  • from the academic, engineering or technical community
  • working within STFC’s remit
  • based at an eligible UK research organisation.

Address a societal challenge relating to security or the environment

Apply for funding to address a societal challenge within the remit of STFC’s security theme or environment theme, or both themes.

You must work in an STFC lab or facility, or be currently funded through an eligible STFC core science programme area.

Engage the public with STFC’s science, technology and facilities

Apply for funding to engage the public with STFC-supported science, technology or facilities.

You must work for an organisation that:

  • is based in the UK
  • has audited accounts.

Proposals must include a researcher in an STFC-funded area.
