This competition is open to single applicants only.

To lead a project your organisation must be a UK registered micro, small or medium-sized enterprise (SME).

You must be an eligible research organisation. Training must be provided jointly with a non-academic organisation.

The project must fall within the STFC core science programme.

Research core science independently: Ernest Rutherford Fellowship

Apply for funding to run an independent research project. The project must be within the remit of the STFC core science programme.

You must be an early career researcher. Your application must be hosted and supported by an eligible UK research organisation.

You must hold a PhD and have clear leadership potential.

Improve and accelerate the impact of your organisation’s research

Apply for impact acceleration account (IAA) funding to help your organisation’s research have an impact.

Your organisation must be eligible for funding from one of these councils:

  • AHRC
  • BBSRC
  • EPSRC
  • STFC
  • MRC.

To be eligible to apply for EPSRC funding, your organisation must have been invited.

STFC Horizons Programme: investigating solutions for net zero

Apply for funding for early development of promising net zero technologies and solutions.

The science, technology, applications and expertise must originate from the STFC core science programme or STFC facilities and laboratories.

PATT travel claim for competitively awarded observation time

Claim back travel and subsistence costs when visiting an astronomy telescope. The visit must be for competitively awarded science observation time.

You must be a UK-based researcher at an eligible UK institution.

You must not already hold or have access to a travel grant from the Panel for the Allocation of Telescope Time (PATT).
