The CoSTAR Live Lab is led by the University of York with core partners:
- Production Park
- Screen Yorkshire
- Wakefield Council
- Vodafone
- York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership
The CoSTAR Live Lab will develop technologies for future live performance experiences using virtual production, from small-scale pilots to arena-sized productions.
The Live Lab facility will:
- provide research and development (R&D) capabilities to develop innovative, low-cost technologies and efficient workflows to transform the live performance sector
- enable commercialisation of research and novel technologies that are close to market and shaped by the needs of industry
- incubate startups and high-growth small and medium enterprises (SMEs)
- deliver an access programme to enable public and industry participation in R&D activities, workshops, networking events, technology showcases, lectures and symposia
CoSTAR Live Lab will include three main laboratory spaces:
- a large-volume commercial virtual production stage with high-resolution motion tracking, LED panels and 3D immersive sound
- a network lab for performer-performer and performer-audience interaction
- an end-user experience lab for virtual production
