Infrastructure and capital strategic advisory group

The infrastructure and capital strategic advisory group (ICSAG) is responsible for advising and shaping MRC’s strategy for infrastructure and capital support for the UK medical science community.

ICSAG takes a broad and long-term perspective of MRC’s role in UKRI and the wider UK infrastructure and capital funding landscape.

A key focus of ICSAG is peer review and prioritisation of MRC bids for the UKRI Infrastructure Fund.

ICSAG considers infrastructure and capital needs across the breadth of MRC’s portfolio including the interface with other research councils, but not limited to:

  • bioimaging, medical imaging and structural biology
  • genomic, phonemic and other ‘omics approaches to human health and disease research
  • infectious disease research
  • development of experimental medicine or novel therapeutic approaches
  • advanced cell therapies and techniques
  • longitudinal population studies
  • cell, tissue, or organ banking facilities
  • preclinical research facilities
  • national facilities for medical research
  • major capital investments
  • technology development activities
  • necessary data platforms to support specific infrastructure activity.
