In 2022, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) invested £438 million in world-class bioscience. Our role is to support and invest in bioscience that delivers world-class outputs, outcomes and impacts to society and the economy.

This collection of stories highlights the different types of impact that have been realised throughout 2022, introducing some of the researchers and innovators who have made this happen.

The selection of impacts included in the showcase span the breadth of the BBSRC remit, including:

  • sustainable technologies for food and nutrition security
  • cleaner and greener processes for biomanufacturing
  • tackling infections including antimicrobial resistance
  • transformative technologies, including artificial intelligence, and engineering biology
